Mid summer trip to Shapinsay.
Written by Kay Morgan on

Summer arrived last Saturday 27th June after a very long spell of wet and cold weather. Luckily we had a family birthday party to attend in Shapinsay, a small island about 20 mins from Kirkwall. We took the regular ferry out and had a lovely time with bbq, live band and catch up with family and friends. We left Shapinsay at 10pm to return home on a small charter boat and enjoyed the most beautiful crossing as the sun was setting. Magical!

Fishing on Loch Harray
Written by Kay Morgan on
Unexpected catch of the day! Our guests have come all the way from Somerset expecting to catch brown trout. They were fishing at Esselmont Bay at the north end of the Harray Loch when the line went tight, but got a surprise when a flat fish landed at their feet! For those of you who don't know, the Harray Loch is not directly connected to the sea so I am guessing that it lost its way to arrive so far away from salt water. It must have travelled up through the Stenness Loch and then into Harray Loch.
